Are you using your hometown or residence for your story location? I know some authors do not, but I think it adds to the story if the author knows a lot about the city in which the story is located. I used Alabama beaches as my location. My dad lives in that area so I am very use to it. I thought about using New Orleans, but I wanted a fresh location.

I would find it hard using some other city or state because since I don't live anywhere else, I don't know anything about the city; landmarks, the hot spots, schools, malls or something simple as what the city is know for.

That is why I don't see how some artist do it. I familar with about five places, because I lived in each one. I don't think my books would every vary from those places.

Yea that's what I'm sayin. Now, I might write about a character going to another city or state for a vacation or school trip, usually to a place I've been or want to go to, and have a friend there that tells me about the city.

I'm using my hometown of Joliet because it's really much easier for me and it gives people a chance to know about a city that they never been to.

I think when the author has it coming from their hometown it gives the reader more of a sense of the surroundings. Also, I think you can describe someplace you've grown up or lived in for a while better then somewhere u didn't.

But I don't know it that well. I can get to a lot of places though. I am great with directions.

I'm good with directions if the person giving them to me knows how to tell me clearly w/o confusion.

If I go there once, I pretty much know how to get there from then on.

It looks like trash, like it did before. They are now trying to clean it up.

It looks like trash, like it did before. They are now trying to clean it up. I thought it would. See, this is why I have issues with the gov. and media in general. Do u see them filming down there on how it still looks like trash when it's going on a year after the hurricane hit? Do u see the it being shown in the media 24/7, 365 days a year? Nope
